Pudong New Area in East China's Shanghai is promoting green and low-carbon methods to practice its new park city development concept.
According to official data released this year, Pudong has built 60 kilometers of greenways, which run through ecological zones, public parks, entertainment parks and miniature green spaces across the area, allowing residents to enjoy nature.
Pudong is expected to construct 50 km of greenways along its outer Ring Road during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), and will plant different species of trees to create a rich characteristic landscape that changes with the seasons. Supporting facilities such as wooden benches, and porches have been installed, providing the general public with an ideal location for leisure and sightseeing activities.
According to the Shanghai Ecological Space Special Plan (2021-35), Shanghai plans to construct a total of 2,000 km of greenways by the end of 2035, which will not only beautify the landscapes of the city, but also improve daily services for the public.
