Dec 24: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Dec 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 4,128 new cases of confirmed infections (25 imported cases, 7 in Shanghai municipality, 6 in Guangdong province, 4 in Beijing municipality, 4 in Heilongjiang province, 3 in Sichuan province and 1 in Liaoning province; 4,103 indigenous cases, 1,737 in Guangdong province, 580 in Beijing municipality, 338 in Fujian province, 309 in Yunnan province, 283 in Chongqing municipality, 258 in Hubei province, 109 in Hunan province, 94 in Sichuan province, 80 in Shanghai municipality, 52 in Shanxi province, 51 in Tianjin municipality, 35 in Shaanxi province, 33 in Henan province, 32 in Jiangxi province, 31 in Shandong province, 30 in Zhejiang province, 13 in Hebei province, 10 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 9 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 9 in Heilongjiang province, 5 in Qinghai province, 2 in Hainan province, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Tibet autonomous region and 1 in Ningxia Hui autonomous region), no deaths, and 1 new case of suspected infections (an indigenous case in Hubei province).

On Dec 23, 1,760 patients were released from hospital after being cured (62 imported cases; 1,698 indigenous cases, 829 in Guangdong province, 267 in Beijing municipality, 91 in Fujian province, 85 in Chongqing municipality, 69 in Shanxi province, 46 in Sichuan province, 44 in Yunnan province, 42 in Tianjin municipality, 42 in Shandong province, 35 in Shanghai municipality, 33 in Shaanxi province, 26 in Hebei province, 24 in Henan province, 21 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 14 in Hubei province, 11 in Hunan province, 7 in Jiangsu province, 7 in Zhejiang province, 3 in Heilongjiang province, 1 in Anhui province and 1 in Guizhou province). 28,865 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 99.

As of 24:00 on Dec 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 28,914 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 28,480 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 434 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Dec 23, the National Health Commission had received reports of 397,195 confirmed cases and 5,241 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 350,117 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 41,699 confirmed cases (including 515 cases in serious condition) and 24 suspected cases. 15,377,952 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 147,724 were still under medical observation.

As of 24:00 on Dec 23, 9,161,081 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 495,614 in Hong Kong (11,373 had died and 108,371 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 1,851 in Macao (19 had died and 1,521 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 8,663,616 in Taiwan (15,039 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
