Dec 21: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Dec 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 3,101 new cases of confirmed infections (52 imported cases, 18 in Guangdong province, 17 in Sichuan province, 4 in Heilongjiang province, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Shandong province, 3 in Liaoning province, 1 in Chongqing municipality and 1 in Gansu province; 3,049 indigenous cases, 1,171 in Guangdong province, 544 in Beijing municipality, 245 in Jiangxi province, 204 in Chongqing municipality, 184 in Fujian province, 127 in Yunnan province, 119 in Hunan province, 108 in Shanghai municipality, 86 in Sichuan province, 59 in Tianjin municipality, 37 in Zhejiang province, 36 in Henan province, 32 in Shanxi province, 22 in Shaanxi province, 17 in Shandong province, 16 in Guizhou province, 15 in Hebei province, 7 in Jiangsu province, 6 in Heilongjiang province, 5 in Qinghai province, 4 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 3 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 2 in Hainan province), no deaths, and 12 new cases of suspected infections (all were indigenous cases in Shanghai municipality).

On Dec 20, 1,953 patients were released from hospital after being cured (44 imported cases; 1,909 indigenous cases, 993 in Guangdong province, 360 in Beijing municipality, 127 in Yunnan province, 76 in Chongqing municipality, 75 in Fujian province, 72 in Sichuan province, 30 in Henan province, 30 in Guizhou province, 21 in Hubei province, 19 in Shaanxi province, 15 in Liaoning province, 13 in Hainan province, 12 in Heilongjiang province, 10 in Shanghai municipality, 10 in Zhejiang province, 9 in Shandong province, 8 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 7 in Jiangsu province, 6 in Hebei province, 5 in Shanxi province, 5 in Hunan province, 3 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Anhui province, 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and 1 in Qinghai province). 54,918 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 53.

As of 24:00 on Dec 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 28,760 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 28,285 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 475 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Dec 20, the National Health Commission had received reports of 386,276 confirmed cases and 5,241 deaths (decreased by 1 in Beijing municipality after verification) in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 343,855 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 37,111 confirmed cases (including 329 cases in serious condition) and 31 suspected cases. 15,345,209 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 252,610 were still under medical observation.

As of 24:00 on Dec 20, 9,096,294 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 489,096 in Hong Kong (11,243 had died and 106,785 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 1,659 in Macao (16 had died and 1,270 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 8,605,539 in Taiwan (14,931 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
