Authorities in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province have over the past few years been exploring new means of providing employment to local farmers.
One of the most effective ways to help farmers gain employment has been establishing livestreaming e-commerce workshops that help promote local agricultural produce.
Zhoushan is currently home to four provincial livestreaming e-commerce workshops and 24 city-level e-commerce workshops.
Authorities have held 1,700 livestreaming activities which have sold more than 500 million yuan ($71.88 million) worth of agricultural and fishery products this year.
A livestreaming e-commerce workshop in Zhoushan's Shengsi county has also expanded the sales channels for its renowned mussels through online exhibitions and promotions.
The workshop has invited experts from universities and institutes, including Shanghai Ocean University, to conduct regular training for local fishermen. One hundred and eighty-nine fishermen in Shengsi underwent training this year.
The workshop has also provided more than 100 mussel-processing jobs that pay at least 200 yuan a day.
In addition, the workshop has helped enterprises related to mussel processing develop new products, and this in turn will aid the county's common prosperity efforts.
