Huawei Technologies Co has unveiled a smart watch with in-built earphones, as part of its broader push to offer innovative electronics to meet the markets growing demand for connectivity.
The Huawei Watch Buds is the first ever smart watch to house two pop-up magnetic earphones. Consumers only have to open the watch dial and access two wireless earbuds inside. It has a hinge structure and it has been tested over 100,000 times for its opening and closing actions, Huawei said.
According to the company, the weight of a single build-in earphone is only 4 grams, and each earphone has a symmetrical octagonal cylinder design.
Data from the market research company Canalys show that smart watches became the only category in the Chinese mainland wearables market that maintained growth in the third quarter, with the shipments seeing a year-on-year growth of 16.8 percent to 3.4 million units. The basic watches still hold the largest market share of wearables in the Chinese mainland, more than 40 percent, while the smart bracelet and smart watch markets are almost equal, accounting 29 percent and 28 percent respectively.
