On Dec 8, 3,743 patients were released from hospital after being cured (73 imported cases; 3,670 indigenous cases, 1,600 in Guangdong province, 394 in Beijing municipality, 278 in Chongqing municipality, 187 in Heilongjiang province, 151 in Sichuan province, 146 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 139 in Henan province, 125 in Shanxi province, 109 in Shandong province, 85 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 68 in Fujian province, 64 in Zhejiang province, 54 in Yunnan province, 42 in Liaoning province, 34 in Jiangsu province, 34 in Guizhou province, 32 in Jilin province, 29 in Hunan province, 27 in Shanghai municipality, 18 in Shaanxi province, 17 in Hebei province, 9 in Hainan province, 8 in Anhui province, 7 in Hubei province, 5 in Qinghai province, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Jiangxi province, 2 in Gansu province, 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and 1 in Ningxia Hui autonomous region). 384,691 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. As of 24:00 on Dec 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 28,045 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 27,527 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 518 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Dec 8, the National Health Commission had received reports of 357,652 (decreased by 2 in Beijing municipality after verification) confirmed cases and 5,235 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 309,259 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 43,158 (decreased by 2 in Beijing municipality after verification) confirmed cases (including 143 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 14,786,543 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 1,459,212 were still under medical observation.

As of 24:00 on Dec 8, 8,898,272 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 469,948 in Hong Kong (10,891 had died and 101,657 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 851 in Macao (6 had died and 791 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 8,427,473 in Taiwan (14,585 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
