The successful experience of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) in developing digital economy and promoting the in-depth integration of 5G, real economy and the manufacturing sector has been shared across Central China's Hubei province, according to a news report delivered by Hubei Daily on Nov 24.
The fully- 5G-connected factory of VOYAH – China's giant automaker Dongfeng's high-end electric automobile brand – is among the first group of its kind to be recognized by the province. Adopting technologies related to the internet of things, big data, and artificial intelligence, the factory can manage all production factors, which has boosted productivity and made the production line more both flexible and customizable.
So far, the zone has built 1,230 5G base stations, making it a leader in the province when it comes to full 5G network coverage, and it has created multiple demonstration applications for intelligent connected vehicles, smart factories and smart supply chains.
Over the first three quarters of this year, the zone spent 12.19 billion yuan ($1.71 billion) on technological transformation and became home to 12 municipal-level smart factories, accounting for one third of Wuhan's total.
In addition, the zone has also revved up the construction of industrial internet platforms, and currently boasts four such platforms at the provincial level, more than anywhere else in Wuhan.

The Datang DTiip industrial internet platform, for example, can be applied in many industries, including automobiles, electronics and medicine. About 5,000 industrial corporate users and 500,000 pieces of industrial internet equipment will have access to the platform after 15 regional operational platforms are established as planned.
