The World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies' clinical efficacy evaluation committee held its 15th academic annual meeting on Saturday and Sunday.

More than 5,000 representatives from China and abroad attended the event, which was organized by the evaluation committee and the Haihe Laboratory of Modern Chinese Medicine.

"Traditional Chinese Medicine has evolved over thousands of years. The key behind its rich history and vibrant development lies in its clinical efficacy," Zhang Boli, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said in a speech at the opening ceremony. "In the face of the novel coronavirus disease, Chinese medicine has proved its mettle, drawing upon its illustrious legacy while adapting to the times."

Speaking of rising demand for high quality health care services in the new era, Zhang said the federation and the committee can "tap into experts in China and abroad to strengthen research efforts on clinical efficacy evaluation methods, support the modernization of Chinese medicine and the industry's development and enable Chinese medicine to go international and contribute to global public health."

The inaugural ceremony of the Chinese Trial Core Outcome Set regional research center was also held during the meeting, along with the book launch of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Core Outcome Set Research Practice Manual.

Zhang Junhua, head of the evaluation committee, announced a list of 12 regional centers and also provided an introduction to the book. Paula Williamson, professor of medical statistics at the University of Liverpool, presented a keynote speech regarding the core outcomes.

Five academic sessions were held during the two-day conference. Experts from China and abroad who practiced traditional Chinese and Western medicine, as well as those from other disciplines, were invited to share their knowledge and experience.
