The 2022 Suzhou International Day kicked off on Nov 20, themed on crafts and culture in China, Japan and South Korea, local media outlets reported.
The China-Japan-South Korea Craft and Cultural Exhibition, a cultural celebration for the international day, is currently being held at the West Branch of Suzhou Museum in Suzhou New District, showcasing 150 traditional crafts and gifts from the three countries.
Various exchange activities, including exhibitions, concerts, traditional cultural courses, touring exhibitions of paintings by teenagers, and cultural and sports fairs, will be held in the coming weeks, bringing an East Asian cultural feast to residents.
The China-Japan-South Korea Traditional Culture Experience Class, a highlight of the event, opened its first session today at Suzhou Museum West. Participants threaded fan sticks, painted fan leaves, and experienced the charm of elegant Suzhou fans.
The class will continue inviting teachers of traditional crafts from China, Japan and South Korea. Another five sessions on the Jeonju fan, ikebana, Korean paper folding, wagashi and traditional Chinese medicine sachet will be held.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea. It also echoes the China-Japan Cultural and Sports Exchange Promotion Year and China-South Korea Year of Cultural Exchanges.
