Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has been promoting the construction of the Indonesia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone in recent years, offering more than 3,000 job opportunities for Indonesian people, said Yang Chunting, the director of the Department of Commerce of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on Nov 18.
The Indonesia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone is the first national overseas economic and trade cooperation zone that China has set up in Indonesia, which features industrial production, warehouses and logistics, as well as trade.
Constructed by Guangxi State Farms, it is also Guangxi's first economic and trade cooperation demonstration industrial park overseas.
Yang said that the zone has now initially formulated industrial chains covering mechanical parts, infrastructure building materials, warehousing and logistics, food processing, as well as packaging and printing.
Prestigious Chinese enterprises like China XD Group, Mengniu, and China Oilfield Services have settled in the zone. In addition, the zone has attracted investments from transnational corporations like Schlumberger, Fonterra, and Valmet.
Yang noted that Guangxi is the only region in China connected with ASEAN both by land and sea, adding that the region will make full use of the China-ASEAN Expo to promote opening-up and cooperation with ASEAN countries. It will continue to maintain cooperation with Indonesia in the areas of trade, investment, and project contracting.
The total import and export volume between Guangxi and Indonesia in the first quarter of 2022 expanded by 56.1 percent year-on-year to 10.32 billion yuan ($1.44 billion).
