Diversified tourism resources in Zhangjiajie

In recent years, Zhangjiajie has made continuous efforts to improve its tourism products such as leisure vacation, rural tourism and Red tourism, providing an important window to show beautiful China.

Zhangjiajie boasts rich landscape resources featuring towering peaks, deep canyons, jagged rocks and primitive forests. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the first national forest park in China. There are 6 scenic spots in the park such as Huangshi Stockaded Village, Pipa Stream and Jinbian Stream, among which Huangshi Stockaded Village is the most well-known.

Huangshi Stockaded Village, 1,080 meters above sea level, is located in the middle of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Climbing onto this natural viewing platform, you can see many strange and magnificent peaks rising straight from the ground. In late autumn and early winter, the mountains are no longer just green, but full of colors. Tourists may be intoxicated by the enthralling natural beauty.

When night falls, the large-scale live-action landscape show “The Fairy Fox” will be presented with the sky as the curtain and the mountains as the stage. The performance integrates cultural elements like Sangzhi folk songs and Tujia Maogusi dance, impressing tourists with both the enchanting natural scenery and customs of Xiangxi and culture of the Tujia people.

Suitable for living, working and travelling

In Zhangjiajie, there is not only picturesque natural scenery, but also pastoral rural life.

Walking into Matouxi Village in Yongding District, Zhangjiajie City, the well-preserved quaint stilted buildings and wind and rain bridge will come into your view first. The metasequoia trees planted by villagers line on both sides of the road along the Matouxi Stream. Just as the trees turn green in summer and golden in autumn, so the ancient village also undertakes great changes.

In recent years, Zhangjiajie has built a number of rural tourist destinations with a beautiful ecological, production and living environment and launched some characteristic boutique rural tourist routes.

Longweiba Community of Xiehe Township in Wulingyuan District, adjacent to Zhangjiajie core scenic area, is well-known for its homestay inns. The characteristic homestay inns which were converted from rural residences dot the mountains. The booming homestay economy not only provides jobs for villagers but also helps sell mountain products.

Red genes pass on

Zhangjiajie boasts many red revolutionary sites. In Sangzhi County, the red scenic spots like the Memorial Hall of the Departure Place of the Long March of the Second Front Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army attract a large number of tourists.

The memorial hall leans against the mountain with the top like a Red Army cap. Many people come to Sangzhi County to listen to and learn folk songs and relive the past Long March days. Not long ago, the 2022 Sangzhi Folk Song Festival opened in the memorial hall.

“There is a large number of Sangzhi folk songs describing the harmonious relations between the army and the people, which played a role in encouraging morale and uniting people during the Long March,” said Xiang Zuorong, an inheritor of Sangzhi folk songs.
