Yining city in Ili Kazak autonomous prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region resumed normal life and work starting on Wednesday, the local government reported.
"Through the unremitting efforts of the whole city, we finally reached the dynamic zero-COVID goal at the community level in the latest COVID-19 outbreak," Qiao Xuegang, the city's vice-mayor, said at a news conference on Tuesday. "The city will resume work, business, markets and schools in an orderly manner starting at 10 am on Wednesday."
"Under the guidance of the epidemic control and prevention policy, we will continue to carry out risk screening, nucleic acid testing and other measures to prevent the importation, spillover, rebound and spread of the virus," he said.
He urged residents to maintain good health habits and avoid unnecessary gatherings to reduce the risk of transmission.
