Yongding District implements forest chief scheme to protect forests

The forest coverage rate of Wangjiaping Town in Yongding District, Zhangjiajie City, is up to 92.28%. Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, so it’s important to protect them.

Yongding District adheres to the principle of ecological priority and green development, and implements the "forest chief" scheme, involving forest chief, forest ranger, supervisor, forestry technician and law enforcement personnel. Due to this system, Yongding District has fully realized the goal that there are people to guard mountains, to plant trees, to protect the forest and to shoulder the responsibility.

In response to the problems like afforestation, fire prevention and pine wood nematode disease, forest chiefs at all levels in Yongding District take the lead in patrolling the forests, and carrying out supervision and inspection.

Since the beginning of this summer, it has been dry and hot. As the risk of forest fire continues to rise, the forest chiefs and rangers in the district are required to conduct inspections at intersections, mountains and fields to prevent fire from the source.

Seen from the Gaoping Village, thousands of cedar trees are growing luxuriantly. At the entrance of the village, there is an electric signboard, which displays the information of forest chiefs, the relevant department, and the forest resources, broadcasts a short film of forest fire prevention all the day.
