The Wuxi National Hi-tech District became part of the first batch of provincial demonstration zones for high-quality development in manufacturing in Jiangsu province, according to a recent announcement by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology.
In recent years, WND has been promoting the high-quality development of leading industries such as internet of things, integrated circuits, high-end equipment manufacturing and biomedicine.
By 2021, the district's total industrial output value had exceeded 550 billion yuan ($75.83 billion) thanks to outstanding performances in many industrial fields. WND has shown strong influence in the IoT and IC industries and is now home to 12 industrial clusters with scales exceeding 10 billion yuan each, three of which exceed 100 billion yuan.
The district has two recognized "lighthouse factories", which are the most advanced factories leading the the adoption and integration of frontier technologies around the world. It is also home to three national "intelligent manufacturing benchmarking enterprises", five national enterprise technology centers, and 59 provincial enterprise technology centers.
WND is currently home to one national single-product champion enterprise, 19 national "little giants", and 59 provincial and 123 municipal specialized and sophisticated small- and medium-sized enterprises that produce new and unique products. The overall amount ranks first among all districts in Wuxi.
Officials have said that WND will continue to follow the new scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation and work to cultivate industrial chains, improve innovation abilities, and promote intelligent and green transformation.
