As a white sport utility vehicle slowly rolled off the production line at a general assembly workshop at the Changchun base of Sino-German joint venture FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co on Monday, the company announced that it had produced 25 million vehicles since operations began in Changchun, Jilin province, in 1991.
FAW-VW rolled out its 20 millionth vehicle on March 30, 2020.
In recent years, the company has overcome multiple challenges, including repeated epidemics, chip shortages and natural disasters, it said.
However, the company spent only two years and seven months increasing the total production of vehicles from 20 million to 25 million, becoming the only passenger car company with more than 5 million vehicles both in production and for sale in China since 2020.
Over the past 31 years, FAW-VW has grown into one of the most successful passenger vehicle manufacturers in the world's largest auto market.
The carmaker currently has production bases in five Chinese cities, including Changchun; Foshan, Guangdong province; Chengdu, Sichuan province; Qingdao, Shandong province; and Tianjin.
