Ejine Banner is located in the westernmost part of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, bordering Alshaa Right Banner to the southeast, Gansu province to the west and southwest, and Mongolia to the north. It has a border length of 507 kilometers.
The total area of the whole region is 114,600 square kilometers, accounting for 42 percent of the total area of the whole League. It has jurisdiction over three towns, six Sumu towns, two streets, 21 Gazha and seven communities. There are 12 ethnic groups, including Mongolia, Han and Hui, with a population of 32,000. The Mongolians account for 16.1 percent of the population. Ejine is the banner with the largest area and the least population in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
Ejine Banner has an altitude between 898 meters and 1,598 meters. The landform is mainly composed of Gobi, low mountains, deserts, rivers, lakes and oases.
Heihe River, which originated from the northern foot of Qilian Mountain in Qinghai province, is the mother river of Ejine. From south to north, it goes through Zhangye, Gaotai, Jinta and other cities and counties in Gansu province, finally merges into the east and west Juyan Lake, forming an Ejine Oasis with an area of 31,600 square kilometers.
In 2020, affected by the epidemic, the GDP of the whole area was 3.81 billion yuan ($595 million), a year-on-year increase of 0.7 percent. The general public finance budget revenue was 300 million yuan, investment in fixed assets decreased by 1.5 percent year-on-year, total retail sales of social consumer goods went down by 18.1 percent year-on-year. The per capita disposable income of urban permanent residents was 44,910 yuan, 1.4 times that of 2015, with an average annual growth rate of 6.4 percent. The per capita disposable income of permanent residents in rural and pastoral areas was 26,906 yuan, 1.5 times that of 2015, with an average annual growth rate of 8.3 percent.
