Based on its characteristic agricultural resources, Hechi has transformed its agricultural industry from traditional agriculture to modern agriculture over the past decade. As a result, the incomes of local farmers have continuously improved and the rural landscape has taken on a new look.
From 2012 to 2021, the total output value of the city's agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery industries increased from 20.93 billion yuan ($2.93 billion) to 40.81 billion yuan, with an average annual growth of 8.3 percent. In addition, the per capita disposable income of rural residents increased from 4,647 yuan to 12,325 yuan.
By the end of 2021, the city had built 2,197 modern characteristic agricultural demonstration areas, parks, and spots, including 52 autonomous region level demonstration areas.
In 2021, the output value of the silkworm cocoon and silk industry in Hechi was more than 8 billion yuan, accounting for 20.7 percent of the total output value of the city’s agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery industries. By the end of 2021, Hechi's cocoon output ranked first among prefecture level cities in China for the 17th consecutive year, accounting for 40.06 percent of Guangxi's, 25 percent of the country's, and 23 percent of the world's total output.
In addition, the city has established one national leisure agriculture and rural tourism demonstration county, three national leisure agriculture and rural tourism demonstration sites, five "beautiful leisure villages in China" recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, as well as two boutique routes of China's leisure agriculture and rural tourism.
