On Oct 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 229 new cases of confirmed infections (46 imported cases, 19 in Guangdong province, 9 in Fujian province, 8 in Beijing municipality, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and 1 in Yunnan province, including 7 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 2 in Guangdong province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Tianjin municipality and 1 in Fujian province; 183 indigenous cases, 37 in Guangdong province, 36 in Sichuan province, 26 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 13 in Chongqing municipality, 11 in Shaanxi province, 10 in Jiangsu province, 10 in Yunnan province, 8 in Shanxi province, 5 in Heilongjiang province, 4 in Liaoning province, 4 in Tibet autonomous region, 3 in Tianjin municipality, 3 in Henan province, 3 in Hunan province, 3 in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, 2 in Beijing municipality, 2 in Hainan province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Guizhou province and 1 in Gansu province, including 50 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 15 in Sichuan province, 14 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 8 in Guangdong province, 5 in Yunnan province, 3 in Hunan province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Heilongjiang province, 1 in Chongqing municipality and 1 in Gansu province), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On Oct 5, 222 patients were released from hospital after being cured (41 imported cases; 181 indigenous cases, 65 in Hainan province, 54 in Sichuan province, 23 in Guizhou province, 17 in Heilongjiang province, 6 in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, 5 in Yunnan province, 2 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Shaanxi province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Hebei province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Henan province, 1 in Hunan province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Tibet autonomous region). 20,424 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases decreased by 2.

As of 24:00 on Oct 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 24,412 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 23,792 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 620 confirmed cases (1 case in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Oct 5, the National Health Commission had received reports of 251,849 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 243,740 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 2,883 confirmed cases (including 16 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 6,165,760 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 205,555 were still under medical observation.

On Oct 5, 1,072 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (77 imported cases; 995 indigenous cases, 326 in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, 301 in Hainan province, 114 in Heilongjiang province, 59 in Guizhou province, 58 in Sichuan province, 55 in Tibet autonomous region, 17 in Tianjin municipality, 12 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 8 in Shaanxi province, 7 in Hebei province, 7 in Qinghai province, 5 in Shandong province, 4 in Anhui province, 4 in Henan province, 4 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 3 in Hubei province, 3 in Gansu province, 2 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Hunan province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Chongqing municipality). 57 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 7 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Oct 5, 8,851 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 782 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Oct 5, 7,103,498 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 417,189 in Hong Kong (10,194 had died and 85,835 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 793 in Macao (6 had died and 787 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 6,685,516 in Taiwan (11,280 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
