Zhangjiajie has two demonstration villages for ‘One Village, One Product’

Recently, the 12th batch of national demonstration villages and towns for "one village, one product" campaign was released by the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Affairs, Dongxi Village's pepper and Damijie Village’s vine tea in Zhangjiajie were on the list.

Thanks to its unique geographical and ecological advantages, Dongxi Qizimei pepper has a planting history of more than 100 years.

In recent years, with the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, Dongxi Village has adopted the "village Party  organization+cooperatives+farmers" model to vigorously develop pepper planting, strengthen the village collective economy and drive villagers to increase income.

Qizimei pepper grows in the alpine mountain area with an altitude of 500 to 800 meters. With large temperature difference between day and night in the production area, appropriate light intensity, and abundant rainfall during the vegetative growth period, it’s suitable for the growth of pepper seedlings. The less rainfall during the reproductive growth period is favorable for fruit development.

And the low temperature is suitable for processing, fermentation and storage of peppers.

Moreover, this place is rich in selenium. Due to rich vegetation and dense forests, there is high organic matter content and rich trace elements in the soil, especially high iron, phosphorus, calcium, zinc and selenium, which is particularly suitable for pepper planting.

Damijie village vine tea in Maoyanhe Town, Yongding District

Damijie Village is located in a remote mountainous area of Maoyanhe Town, Yongding District, with good natural environment and rich ecological resources.

Damijie has planted 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of vine tea, built a vine tea processing plant of more than 1,000 square meters and warehouses of 400 square meters. And the per capita income of villagers has increased by more than 5,000 yuan.

The village was approved as a model village for building a prosperous industry in Yongding District in 2022.

Due to the high altitude and low temperature, the spring tea in Damijie is picked one month later than other places, and the peak production period is from June to September.

The national "one village, one product" demonstration villages and towns are administrative villages and towns recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, which have distinctive leading industries, significant quality benefits, close relationship between agriculture and farmers, basically achieve the integrated development of villages and towns, and have a strong radiation and driving role. The main products are a specific category of featured planting, breeding, food, culture and new forms.
