The 2022 version of Yang Liping's dance drama Peacock delivered three consecutive performances this week at Yunnan Grand Theater in Kunming, Yunnan province, marking the beginning of the show's national tour.
Produced and directed by Yang, a well-known Chinese dancer, the new run of shows will go to 12 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing.
Yang uses original ethnic songs and dances from Yunnan, as well as modern dance and world-class staging to create a story that blends nation and world, and ancient and contemporary times in China.
The 2.5-hour dance drama is divided into four chapters — Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter — showing a fantasy peacock world and depicting a number of metaphorical and ethnic peacock images.
Under the guidance of Yang, four leading actors, including Xiao Ronghao, Yang Han, Yuan Zhiping and Fan Jingyue gave perfect performances in Kunming.
