Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, recently became a national pilot city strong in intellectual property (IP) development, according to an announcement by the China National Intellectual Property Administration.
Through local application and recommendation, material review, and expert evaluation, 72 cities across the country were identified as national pilot cities. The pilot demonstration period is from July 2022 to June 2025.
In recent years, Taiyuan has fully boosted IP development and accelerated the construction of an urban IP operation service system, with IP quantity and quality being rapidly improved.
In the first half of the current year, the number of patents authorized in Taiyuan was 7,732, a year-on-year increase of 7.5 percent and accounting for 45.6 percent of the provincial total. The number of valid invention patents reached 14,953, up 11.2 percent compared with the end of 2021 and accounting for 70 percent of the provincial total.
The number of high-value invention patents owned by per 10,000 people was 7.4, and there were 9,827 trademark registrations, accounting for 28.8 percent of the province's total.
The city has so far had one national IP demonstration enterprise, 13 national-level and seven provincial-level enterprises competitive in IP, one national IP pilot university, two national university IP information service centers, and two national IP pilot primary and secondary schools.
