Rudong county – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – on July 30 held a groundbreaking ceremony for 26 major projects that will start construction in the third quarter of the year.
Of these, two projects are located in Rudong's Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone. They are an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber plant to be owned and operated by Jiangsu Jiujiujiu Technology Co Ltd and a marine cable equipment plant being funded by Far East Cable Co Ltd.
With a total investment of 2.39 billion yuan ($353.82 million), the polyethylene fiber plant project is on a site covering 30 hectares and the planned annual output of fiber is 20,000 metric tons.
The marine cable equipment plant – occupying 26.67 hectares – will cost 3 billion yuan. Its annual output is expected to reach 8,000 kilometers of photoelectric composite submarine cable and 27,000 sets of cable accessories.
Additionally – combined with the geographical advantages of Yangkou Port – it will be able to produce 50-kilometer super-long submarine cables.
