Tao Ye
陶冶
Born in Chongqing in 1985, Tao Ye used to work as a dancer in the Shanghai Jinxing Dance Troupe and the Beijing Modern Dance Troupe. At the age of 23, Tao founded his Tao Body Theater and created the widely acclaimed “number” series works. Inspired by oriental philosophy, he created the circular movement system with his own performing style, which has been highly praised internationally. Tao was invited to perform at the Lincoln Art Festival in New York in 2012. He has also been invited to perform in film, dramas, costume designs and other art forms.
Tao Ye's creative style is usually a minimalist technique of repetition and limitation. He makes the dancers reduce the dance routines and only use the spine rhythm. Music is replaced by mere bodily movements, creating two dimensional visualization. Tao’s advanced artistic concept is extremely challenging for both dancers and audiences.
