WND to celebrate 30th anniversary

The Wuxi National Hi-Tech District will host a series of events to celebrate its 30th anniversary, according to a launch ceremony held on Sept 7.

According to the plan, the district will invite people from all walks of life who participated in the construction and development of WND to tell their stories in their own words.

Theme songs, cultural works, short videos and operas will also be collected to celebrate the development of WND over the past three decades.

Exhibitions and lighting shows will be held to show the development of WND in industrial development, scientific and technological innovation, history, culture, and rural tourism.

In addition, the construction of key industrial and cultural projects, including the Wuxi Singapore Science and Technology City, the Wuyue Cultural Digital Scientific and Technological Innovation Valley and the Wuxi Symphony Hall, will be carried out with strong support.

Since its inception was approved by the State Council in 1992, WND, the city's first national economic development zone, has developed into a crucial platform to showcase opening-up and attract foreign investment and a key engine of growth for the local economy.

The district's GDP surpassed 220 billion yuan ($34.8 billion) in 2021, with its year-on-year increase the highest in the city. Emerging as a popular investment destination and building on its strength in technological innovation, the district is striving to create a high-growth modern industrial system with international influence.

The district will strive this year to set a benchmark for high-quality growth and better implement its new development philosophy featuring innovation, coordination, environmentalism, openness and sharing.
