Ninety-eight trainees from the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), and other relevant units participated in the opening ceremony of the 2022 high-level pathogenic microorganism laboratory biosafety training course, organized by the China CDC, on Aug 30.
Liu Dengfeng, commissioner of the Department of Health Science, Technology and Education of the National Health Commission, emphasized the requirements for laboratory biosafety in the Biosafety Law and said that high-level pathogenic microorganism laboratories play an important role in the identification of infectious disease pathogens, the establishment of animal models, and the research into detection reagents, medicines and vaccines. Liu also urged intensified management on high-level laboratory construction and biosafety.
Shi Jingjing, deputy director of the Science and Education Department of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, said that the Beijing Municipal Health Commission will fully support the China CDC in construction of the high-level laboratory biosafety training base.
Guo Chunmei, deputy director of the Changping District Health Commission in Beijing, said that the commission also hopes that the China CDC will give full play to its advantages in the construction and management of pathogenic microorganism laboratories and promote the development of other laboratories in the district.
Liang Bing, director of the Biosafety Division of the Department of Health Science, Technology and Education of the National Health Commission, and Wu Guizhen, chief biosafety expert of the China CDC, jointly inaugurated the training base.
