British Chinese CEO lauds Xi'an's business eco-system

"Xi'an's policies for attracting talent and a good entrepreneurial environment made me give up on other options and I decided to set up the company in Xi'an," said Gong Ping, a British Chinese businessman and the founder of WaferChina, also known as Xi'an Tangjing Quantum Technology Co.

In November 2017, Gong became the first top talent to be introduced by Xi'an. He said the support of the city’s talent introduction project and the supporting talent service guarantee measures of the Xi'an Foreign Expert Bureau made him less worried about starting up a business there.

That same month, WaferChina was established.

The company is committed to the development and production of III-V compound semiconductor epitaxial wafers with gallium arsenide and indium phosphide as substrates – achieving domestic industrialization of semiconductor laser epitaxial wafers.

After several years of development, the R&D and production team of the company has become a first-class technical group recognized as such in the industry.

Gong has been awarded the honor of a Top Talent in Xi'an and he received 2 million yuan ($288,387) in scientific research support funds to help the company further develop and grow.

A key project in the Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone, the company's new quantum compound semiconductor epitaxial wafer R&D and production facility started construction in June.

After the project starts operating, it is expected to greatly boost the R&D and production capacity of the company.

"The Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone opened up a fast-track channel for the company and issued the approval document for the project at the fastest speed, which moved us very much," Gong said.

"WaferChina will create more output value to repay Xi'an, which is a great place for investment and doing business," he added.
