The feasibility study report on the first phase of subway line 5 in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, recently received approval from the Jiangsu Development and Reform Commission.
The first phase is a crucial part of the city's subway line 5 and is essential to the development of the rail transit network and tourism, as well as the promotion of local economic and social development.
Extending 25.4 kilometers, the first phase includes 22 stations stretching from Yufu Island Station in Binhu district to Xinyun Road Station in Xinwu district, all of which will be built underground.
The first phase will travel along major roads in the city, including Taihu, Hongxing, Wangzhuang, and Taibo roads.
The project is estimated to cost 25.369 billion yuan ($3.7 billion) and construction will last for about 64 months.
Subway line 5 is scheduled to begin operating in 2027. It spans 28.9 km from Tangcheng Station in Binhu to Xinyun Road Station in Xinwu, and saffron yellow is its theme color.
