An inspection team composed of professionals from the Division of Injury Prevention and Mental Health of the National Center for Chronic and Non-communicable Disease Control and Prevention of the China CDC, visited Shaoguan, Guangdong province in South China, from Aug 18 to 19 to review local work on fall prevention among the elderly.
The team went to Sanxi town first, which is in Lechang county of Shaoguan, to learn about the situation and needs of fall prevention and control for the elderly in rural areas on Aug 18. They visited the homes of four elderly residents who had fallen over to evaluate the home environment’s risks and provide health guidance on fall prevention.
On Aug 19, the team went to Huangkeng town of the city’s Renhua county to conduct on-site inspections on the implementation of the epidemiological survey and the risk assessment of falls in the elderly.
During the inspection, team members held a discussion on four aspects of fall prevention and control work for the elderly in rural areas — the current situation, resources and conditions, intervention needs and measures to be taken.
