The China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) held a meeting on Sept 2, to promote the establishment and improvement of the working mechanisms for the protection of the rights and interests of people with disabilities.
The mechanisms will better plan and coordinate the responsibilities of the CDPF’s various departments to ensure the equal rights and interests of the disabled.
Heads of related departments of the CDPF attended the meeting and exchanged views on strengthening protection efforts for people with disabilities. Cheng Kai, vice-chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the CDPF, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
The meeting stressed that establishing and improving the mechanisms is an inevitable requirement for implementing Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law and the strategy of governing the country by law. It is also the concrete measures made by the CDPF to implement the plan for the protection and development of disabled people during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
Over recent years, with the joint efforts of Party committees, governments and disabled people's federations at all levels, the right to survival of people with disabilities has been guaranteed and the rights to health and development have been enhanced. Some mechanisms to protect the rights and interests of people with disabilities have also been established.
Since a number of difficulties and problems still exist, the mechanisms that help effectively safeguard the rights and interests of the disabled need to be further improved.
The meeting highlighted that all departments of the CDPF should clarify the tasks of improving the working mechanisms and actively report the difficulties and urgent needs of the disabled to relevant ministries and departments.
A long-term mechanism to facilitate the protection of the rights and interests of the disabled will be established and play its role, with all parties performing their duties and working together.
The CDPF should analyze the prominent difficulties and problems in the protection of the rights and interests of the disabled, and take concrete measures to tackle the issues.
