URUMQI - Benefiting from the expansion of the main coal transportation route and the improved efficiency of train use, the railway freight volume in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region has increased significantly.
In the first eight months of this year, railway freight in Xinjiang reached 135 million tons, up 11.8 percent year-on-year, China Railway's Urumqi bureau said on Thursday.
So far this year, the Xinjiang railway has handled 78.1 million tons of coal, up 31.1 percent year-on-year, of which 32.3 million tons were transported out of Xinjiang, up 43.2 percent year-on-year.
In the first eight months, the number of China-Europe freight trains passing through Xinjiang's Alashankou and Horgos ports reached 8,701.
