The 3rd National Wheelchair Marathon for the Physically Disabled was held in Changsha city, Central China's Hunan province, on August 29. More than 200 wheelchair marathon enthusiasts from 17 provinces across the country participated in the event.
Zhao Sujing, a member of the leading Party members' group and vice chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF), attended the event and announced the start of the competition.
As one of the activities of the 12th Disabled Persons Fitness Week launched by the CDPF, the event aims to provide disabled people with a platform to participate in physical exercise, and encourage them to cultivate fitness habits, enhance their physical fitness, and further integrate into society.
It also calls for more conducts of caring for the disabled and improvements in the barrier-free environment construction of society.
Officials from the China Association of People with Physical Disabilities, the China Administration of Sport for Persons with Disabilities, the Hunan Disabled Persons' Federation, and the Hunan Province Association of People with Physical Disabilities participated in the activity.
Zhao also met with Li Jianzhong, vice governor of Hunan, and exchanged views on the work on the disabled, listened to the work of the Hunan Disabled Persons' Federation on the general election, grassroots organization construction, specialized associations, and sports for the disabled.
