Shanghai reported one locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 case outside quarantine zones on Wednesday.
The case, a 25-year-old male, arrived in Shanghai on Monday for a business trip. He currently has mild symptoms and is being treated at hospital.
As of 9 am Wednesday, 1,014 close contacts and 425 secondary contacts of the case had been identified and quarantined, with 1,063 testing negative so far.
The residence of the man, No 1888, Yishan Road in Minhang district, has been classified as a high-risk area, while the rest of Hongqiao township was listed as the low-risk area.
In light of this incident, authorities have released a notice calling for inter-province and cross-regional activities, including conferences, trainings and exhibitions, to be postponed or held online if possible.
People traveling to Shanghai from epidemic-affected places should report their travel histories to local authorities and take COVID-19 tests in a timely manner, said Wu Qianyu, an official from the Shanghai Health Commission.
