Hohhot building Asia's biggest internet data exchange center

Hohhot city – capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – is set to make another leap forward in its cloud computing sector, after construction began recently of a data center in the China Telecom Cloud Computing Inner Mongolia Information Park.

When completed, the facility – in Area B of the park, located in Hohhot's Horinger New Area – will be the largest cloud computing park in China and the largest Internet data exchange center in Asia, according to North News network.

The China Telecom Cloud Computing Inner Mongolia Information Park is one of the major projects in the development of a Horinger data center cluster.

The total investment of the information park is 17.3 billion yuan ($2.59 billion) and plans are for 42 data centers and 19 supporting buildings to be constructed. Altogether, the park will have an installed capacity of more than 100,000 racks and cloud computing capacity of more than 1 million servers.

At present, eight data centers, one multipurpose building, two power centers and other support facilities have been built. More than 70 internet companies, financial securities companies, industrial and commercial enterprises, as well as government cloud providers, have settled in the information park.

The big data, cloud computing, electronics information and other industries in the Horinger New Area have been included in the strategic development blueprint for the national digital economy industry.

To date, the new area has implemented 58 electronic information technology industry projects, including 12 projects worth more than 1 billion yuan each and four projects worth more than 10 billion yuan each.
