The Lin-gang Special Area, located in East China's Shanghai city, held a launch ceremony on Aug 24 to promote the construction of the metropolis as a global power city and to develop an industrial cluster there covering five key industries – aviation, aerospace, automobiles, as well as the maritime and energy sectors.

Shanghai will initially establish an industrial scale and industrial system reflecting the brand influence of a global power city by 2025. Plans are that by 2035, it will have fully emerged as a global power city that boasts both technological hard power and cultural soft power, under a blueprint issued by the municipal government in June.

"With leading scientific institutions laying a solid foundation in Lin-gang, we're determined to create a first-class business environment and build Lin-gang up as a core area of a global power city as early as possible," said Chen Jinshan, director of the Lin-gang Special Area Administration.

During the ceremony, the Source of Power industrial park – which is situated in the cutting-edge industrial zone of the Lin-gang Special Area – was launched. It will be the first specialist industrial park in China to establish an industrial agglomeration of the five key sectors. It is expected that the park will promote innovation and bolster the whole industrial supply chain.

What's more, on the launch day Lin-gang issued its 2022-25 action plan to accelerate the construction of the cutting-edge power industries, improve the performance of industrial innovation and ensure safe and efficiently managed industrial and supply chains.

In addition, the Lin-gang Special Area Administration signed a framework agreement on deepening strategic cooperation with leading enterprises in the five fields, including AECC Commercial Aircraft Engine Co Ltd and the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology. Key players in the upstream and downstream segments of the power industry supply chain also signed commercial contracts.
