On Aug 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 352 new cases of confirmed infections (51 imported cases, 12 in Guangdong province, 8 in Shanghai municipality, 8 in Sichuan province, 6 in Heilongjiang province, 6 in Fujian province, 5 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Shaanxi province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 2 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases in Guangdong province; 301 indigenous cases, 161 in Sichuan province, 34 in Hainan province, 24 in Tibet autonomous region, 14 in Henan province, 11 in Heilongjiang province, 10 in Guangdong province, 10 in Chongqing municipality, 8 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 6 in Shaanxi province, 5 in Hunan province, 4 in Tianjin municipality, 3 in Hebei province, 3 in Liaoning province, 2 in Shanxi province, 2 in Gansu province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Shandong province, including 34 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 13 in Sichuan province, 12 in Hainan province, 4 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Guangdong province, 1 in Chongqing municipality, 1 in Tibet autonomous region and 1 in Shaanxi province), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On Aug 28, 636 patients were released from hospital after being cured (72 imported cases; 564 indigenous cases, 467 in Hainan province, 24 in Tibet autonomous region, 15 in Guangdong province, 15 in Shaanxi province, 12 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 7 in Chongqing municipality, 5 in Beijing municipality, 5 in Fujian province, 4 in Zhejiang province, 3 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 3 in Sichuan province, 3 in Qinghai province and 1 in Shanxi province). 20,015 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 2.

As of 24:00 on Aug 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 22,352 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 21,805 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 547 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 28, the National Health Commission had received reports of 242,307 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 230,433 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 6,648 confirmed cases (including 33 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 5,250,599 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 213,002 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 1,344 new asymptomatic cases (89 imported cases; 1,255 indigenous cases, 570 in Tibet autonomous region, 98 in Hainan province, 87 in Sichuan province, 84 in Henan province, 79 in Qinghai province, 48 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 42 in Hebei province, 33 in Heilongjiang province, 32 in Jiangxi province, 28 in Gansu province, 27 in Tianjin municipality, 27 in Hubei province, 25 in Liaoning province, 20 in Shaanxi province, 18 in Chongqing municipality, 9 in Shandong province, 8 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 6 in Jiangsu province, 5 in Shanxi province, 3 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Yunnan province and 1 in Anhui province).

On Aug 28, 1,298 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (102 imported cases; 1,196 indigenous cases, 651 in Hainan province, 379 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 31 in Jiangxi province, 18 in Tibet autonomous region, 18 in Shaanxi province, 18 in Qinghai province, 16 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 15 in Zhejiang province, 11 in Hubei province, 7 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 5 in Shandong province, 5 in Chongqing municipality, 4 in Guangdong province, 3 in Hebei province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Jiangsu province, 2 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Heilongjiang province, 2 in Henan province, 1 in Sichuan province, 1 in Gansu province and 1 in Ningxia Hui autonomous region). 36 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 2 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 28, 22,062 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 736 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 28, 5,604,020 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 381,642 in Hong Kong (9,664 had died and 73,831 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 793 in Macao (6 had died and 785 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 5,221,585 in Taiwan (9,844 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
