Aug 24: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 413 new cases of confirmed infections (33 imported cases, 13 in Guangdong province, 6 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Fujian province, 3 in Beijing municipality, 3 in Sichuan province, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Chongqing municipality, including 7 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 4 in Guangdong province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Sichuan province; 380 indigenous cases, 264 in Hainan province, 23 in Tibet autonomous region, 21 in Chongqing municipality, 17 in Guangdong province, 15 in Sichuan province, 15 in Shaanxi province, 6 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 3 in Henan province, 3 in Gansu province, 3 in Qinghai province, 2 in Jiangxi province, 2 in Hubei province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Zhejiang province and 1 in Anhui province, including 180 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 161 in Hainan province, 10 in Guangdong province, 3 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Yunnan province, 1 in Tibet autonomous region, 1 in Gansu province and 1 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On Aug 23, 718 patients were released from hospital after being cured (85 imported cases; 633 indigenous cases, 555 in Hainan province, 15 in Guangdong province, 14 in Zhejiang province, 8 in Shaanxi province, 7 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 6 in Jiangxi province, 5 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 4 in Sichuan province, 4 in Tibet autonomous region, 3 in Fujian province, 2 in Jilin province, 2 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 2 in Chongqing municipality, 2 in Qinghai province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Hunan province, 1 in Guizhou province and 1 in Yunnan province). 31,935 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 8.

As of 24:00 on Aug 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 22,108 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 21,448 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 660 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 23, the National Health Commission had received reports of 240,646 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 227,334 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 8,086 confirmed cases (including 43 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 5,121,325 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 210,301 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 1,331 new asymptomatic cases (70 imported cases; 1,261 indigenous cases, 543 in Tibet autonomous region, 336 in Hainan province, 169 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 40 in Qinghai province, 26 in Jiangxi province, 26 in Shaanxi province, 22 in Sichuan province, 19 in Chongqing municipality, 16 in Henan province, 11 in Liaoning province, 10 in Hebei province, 9 in Hubei province, 6 in Heilongjiang province, 6 in Anhui province, 6 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 5 in Guangdong province, 4 in Gansu province, 2 in Guizhou province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Hunan province).

On Aug 23, 1,159 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (99 imported cases; 1,060 indigenous cases, 532 in Hainan province, 292 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 62 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 50 in Jiangxi province, 49 in Zhejiang province, 31 in Tibet autonomous region, 12 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 4 in Shandong province, 4 in Hubei province, 3 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 3 in Qinghai province, 2 in Hunan province, 2 in Guangdong province, 2 in Chongqing municipality, 2 in Sichuan province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Gansu province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Hebei province, 1 in Jilin province, 1 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Guizhou province). 187 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 7 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 23, 22,146 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 711 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 23, 5,462,533 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 375,219 in Hong Kong (9,620 had died and 72,376 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 793 in Macao (6 had died and 785 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 5,086,521 in Taiwan (9,673 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
