GDD selected as national IP demonstration park

Guangzhou Development Zone was selected as a national-level intellectual property (IP) demonstration park, the State Intellectual Property Office announced recently.

In recent years, GDD has further promoted the comprehensive reform of IP utilization and protection. It has also achieved remarkable results in its construction of a strong IP park.

In the first half of the year, the district applied for 422 Patent Cooperation Treaty international patents. Its number of invention patents per 10,000 people was 210.79, and its number of enterprise invention patents was 2,773.

The district has been approved as one of the first batch of export bases for characteristic services in the field of IP services in the country. It has also promoted the establishment of the first batch of two resident representative offices of foreign patent agencies in China.

As the only pilot area in China to carry out the comprehensive reform of IP utilization and protection approved by the State Council, GDD has a strong foundation for the IP service industry. It is one of the districts with the most abundant and complete resources for the IP service industry in Guangdong province.

In recent years, GDD has issued a number of IP policies and created an IP support policy system.

To date, the district has provided 240 million yuan ($35 million) in funding, assisting 4,638 companies and 29,833 IP projects. The district's scientific and technological innovation index has ranked first among national economic and technological development districts for three consecutive years.
