Aug 23: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 382 new cases of confirmed infections (74 imported cases, 21 in Tianjin municipality, 17 in Guangdong province, 12 in Shanghai municipality, 5 in Fujian province, 3 in Beijing municipality, 3 in Heilongjiang province, 3 in Sichuan province, 3 in Yunnan province, 2 in Liaoning province, 2 in Shandong province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Hubei province and 1 in Chongqing municipality, including 10 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 4 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shandong province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Zhejiang province and 1 in Sichuan province; 308 indigenous cases, 205 in Hainan province, 27 in Tibet autonomous region, 23 in Chongqing municipality, 13 in Shaanxi province, 7 in Guangdong province, 6 in Sichuan province, 4 in Fujian province, 4 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 3 in Henan province, 3 in Hubei province, 2 in Shanxi province, 2 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Hunan province, 2 in Yunnan province, 2 in Qinghai province, 1 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Zhejiang province and 1 in Jiangxi province, including 65 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 49 in Hainan province, 5 in Tibet autonomous region, 3 in Sichuan province, 2 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 1 in Qinghai province), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On Aug 22, 574 patients were released from hospital after being cured (61 imported cases; 513 indigenous cases, 448 in Hainan province, 13 in Guangdong province, 10 in Zhejiang province, 10 in Sichuan province, 9 in Tibet autonomous region, 5 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 4 in Chongqing municipality, 4 in Shaanxi province, 4 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 3 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Hebei province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Qinghai province). 27,998 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases decreased by 4.

As of 24:00 on Aug 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 22,075 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 21,363 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 712 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 22, the National Health Commission had received reports of 240,233 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 226,616 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 8,391 confirmed cases (including 35 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 5,099,152 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 220,686 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 1,513 new asymptomatic cases (73 imported cases; 1,440 indigenous cases, 520 in Hainan province, 518 in Tibet autonomous region, 173 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 77 in Shaanxi province, 54 in Qinghai province, 23 in Gansu province, 11 in Henan province, 8 in Anhui province, 8 in Hubei province, 8 in Chongqing municipality, 7 in Jiangxi province, 7 in Sichuan province, 5 in Heilongjiang province, 5 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 5 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Liaoning province, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Jilin province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Guizhou province).

On Aug 22, 840 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (88 imported cases; 752 indigenous cases, 369 in Hainan province, 144 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 58 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 44 in Zhejiang province, 40 in Tibet autonomous region, 31 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 13 in Jiangxi province, 12 in Shandong province, 11 in Gansu province, 6 in Hebei province, 6 in Hubei province, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 3 in Guangdong province, 3 in Sichuan province, 2 in Chongqing municipality, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Shaanxi province and 1 in Qinghai province). 75 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 10 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 22, 22,161 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 747 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 22, 5,435,036 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 374,065 in Hong Kong (9,610 had died and 72,109 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 793 in Macao (6 had died and 785 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 5,060,178 in Taiwan (9,657 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
