Aug 22: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 427 new cases of confirmed infections (67 imported cases, 17 in Guangdong province, 13 in Tianjin municipality, 10 in Beijing municipality, 6 in Shanghai municipality, 6 in Fujian province, 5 in Sichuan province, 4 in Heilongjiang province, 2 in Liaoning province, 2 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Zhejiang province and 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, including 4 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Sichuan province; 360 indigenous cases, 232 in Hainan province, 55 in Tibet autonomous region, 16 in Shaanxi province, 11 in Chongqing municipality, 9 in Guangdong province, 8 in Fujian province, 4 in Sichuan province, 4 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 3 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 3 in Gansu province, 2 in Shanxi province, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Henan province, 2 in Hunan province, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Anhui province, 1 in Jiangxi province, 1 in Hubei province, 1 in Guizhou province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 89 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 82 in Hainan province, 3 in Tibet autonomous region, 1 in Hunan province, 1 in Chongqing municipality, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On Aug 21, 293 patients were released from hospital after being cured (68 imported cases; 225 indigenous cases, 174 in Hainan province, 9 in Zhejiang province, 8 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 6 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 6 in Guangdong province, 5 in Jiangxi province, 5 in Tibet autonomous region, 3 in Sichuan province, 2 in Henan province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Chongqing municipality). 26,396 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 7.

As of 24:00 on Aug 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 22,001 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 21,302 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 699 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 21, the National Health Commission had received reports of 239,851 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 226,042 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 8,583 confirmed cases (including 39 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 5,076,842 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 226,641 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 1,558 new asymptomatic cases (94 imported cases; 1,464 indigenous cases, 535 in Hainan province, 494 in Tibet autonomous region, 189 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 73 in Shaanxi province, 64 in Qinghai province, 16 in Henan province, 11 in Guangdong province, 11 in Chongqing municipality, 10 in Hubei province, 8 in Gansu province, 7 in Jiangxi province, 7 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 6 in Hebei province, 6 in Heilongjiang province, 5 in Sichuan province, 4 in Anhui province, 4 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 4 in Yunnan province, 3 in Liaoning province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 1 in Guizhou province).

On Aug 21, 703 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (81 imported cases; 622 indigenous cases, 210 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 189 in Hainan province, 57 in Shandong province, 50 in Zhejiang province, 34 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 32 in Jiangxi province, 13 in Hebei province, 11 in Tibet autonomous region, 9 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 5 in Chongqing municipality, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Hubei province, 2 in Sichuan province and 1 in Guangdong province). 93 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 4 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 21, 21,563 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 772 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 21, 5,417,121 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 373,053 in Hong Kong (9,605 had died and 71,914 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 793 in Macao (6 had died and 785 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 5,043,275 in Taiwan (9,634 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
