On Aug 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 602 new cases of confirmed infections (49 imported cases, 9 in Beijing municipality, 9 in Guangdong province, 8 in Shanghai municipality, 6 in Fujian province, 3 in Tianjin municipality, 3 in Liaoning province, 3 in Heilongjiang province, 3 in Sichuan province, 3 in Yunnan province and 2 in Shandong province, including 9 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 3 in Beijing municipality, 2 in Liaoning province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Shandong province; 553 indigenous cases, 440 in Hainan province, 34 in Tibet autonomous region, 21 in Shaanxi province, 12 in Sichuan province, 9 in Guangdong province, 6 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 5 in Shanxi province, 4 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 4 in Liaoning province, 4 in Qinghai province, 3 in Hunan province, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Chongqing municipality, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Henan province, 1 in Hubei province and 1 in Gansu province, including 211 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 184 in Hainan province, 12 in Tibet autonomous region, 5 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 3 in Guangdong province, 3 in Qinghai province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Zhejiang province and 1 in Sichuan province), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On Aug 20, 396 patients were released from hospital after being cured (42 imported cases; 354 indigenous cases, 277 in Hainan province, 25 in Zhejiang province, 17 in Guangdong province, 7 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 7 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 6 in Chongqing municipality, 6 in Tibet autonomous region, 3 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 2 in Jiangxi province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Hunan province, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Gansu province). 15,656 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 4.

As of 24:00 on Aug 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 21,934 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 21,234 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 700 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 20, the National Health Commission had received reports of 239,424 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 225,749 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 8,449 confirmed cases (including 32 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 5,055,150 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 231,697 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 1,708 new asymptomatic cases (80 imported cases; 1,628 indigenous cases, 625 in Hainan province, 560 in Tibet autonomous region, 200 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 81 in Qinghai province, 45 in Shaanxi province, 15 in Hubei province, 15 in Gansu province, 11 in Henan province, 10 in Chongqing municipality, 9 in Guangdong province, 9 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 8 in Liaoning province, 8 in Heilongjiang province, 8 in Jiangxi province, 4 in Hebei province, 4 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 3 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Sichuan province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Guizhou province and 1 in Ningxia Hui autonomous region).

On Aug 20, 740 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (61 imported cases; 679 indigenous cases, 203 in Hainan province, 198 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 164 in Zhejiang province, 41 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 20 in Shandong province, 12 in Hubei province, 9 in Jiangxi province, 6 in Hebei province, 6 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 5 in Guangdong province, 5 in Chongqing municipality, 3 in Henan province, 2 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Gansu province, 1 in Anhui province, 1 in Yunnan province and 1 in Tibet autonomous region). 220 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 9 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 20, 20,801 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 763 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 20, 5,393,687 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 371,999 in Hong Kong (9,602 had died and 71,684 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 793 in Macao (6 had died and 785 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 5,020,895 in Taiwan (9,608 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
