A cross-Straits taekwondo communication match was recently held in Pingtan county, Fujian province with about 810 participants on 33 teams from the mainland and 152 participants on 11 teams from Taiwan — kept apart by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A video platform was provided online for participants to exchange their skills. They were divided into six groups by age to compete in six disciplines, including Poomsae, stunt performances and taekwondo dance.
The matches, which began in 2012, were a part of the 14th Straits Forum. Integrating cultural and tourism resources, Pingtan is developing sports as one of the county's core competitive strengths.
