Aug 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 637 new cases of confirmed infections (71 imported cases, 21 in Beijing municipality, 14 in Guangdong province, 8 in Liaoning province, 7 in Shanghai municipality, 5 in Fujian province, 4 in Jilin province, 4 in Shandong province, 4 in Yunnan province, 3 in Jiangsu province and 1 in Sichuan province, including 12 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 4 in Beijing municipality, 4 in Liaoning province, 3 in Guangdong province and 1 in Shandong province; 566 indigenous cases, 482 in Hainan province, 35 in Zhejiang province, 16 in Tibet autonomous region, 9 in Guangdong province, 8 in Fujian province, 6 in Shaanxi province, 4 in Sichuan province, 2 in Qinghai province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 33 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 21 in Zhejiang province, 5 in Tibet autonomous region, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Hainan province), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On Aug 16, 140 patients were released from hospital after being cured (47 imported cases; 93 indigenous cases, 50 in Hainan province, 13 in Sichuan province, 10 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 10 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 4 in Gansu province, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Chongqing municipality and 1 in Tibet autonomous region). 12,611 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 2.

As of 24:00 on Aug 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 21,712 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 21,008 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 704 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 236,898 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 224,828 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 6,844 confirmed cases (including 18 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 4,960,562 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 223,408 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 2,399 new asymptomatic cases (77 imported cases; 2,322 indigenous cases, 1,181 in Hainan province, 670 in Tibet autonomous region, 307 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 56 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 22 in Zhejiang province, 18 in Jiangxi province, 13 in Qinghai province, 10 in Jiangsu province, 10 in Shaanxi province, 6 in Hubei province, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Sichuan province, 4 in Yunnan province, 3 in Shandong province, 3 in Chongqing municipality, 2 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Henan province, 2 in Guangdong province, 2 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Guizhou province and 1 in Gansu province).

On Aug 16, 327 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (47 imported cases; 280 indigenous cases, 68 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 57 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 25 in Gansu province, 23 in Hainan province, 22 in Shandong province, 20 in Henan province, 20 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 8 in Sichuan province, 7 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 6 in Zhejiang province, 6 in Yunnan province, 6 in Tibet autonomous region, 4 in Jiangxi province, 4 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Hebei province and 1 in Guizhou province). 45 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 12 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 16, 14,626 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 750 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 16, 5,296,086 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 367,539 in Hong Kong (9,580 had died and 70,639 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 793 in Macao (6 had died and 785 [verified revision] had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 4,927,754 in Taiwan (9,473 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
