Prof. Shen Hongbing, director-general of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, or China CDC, met with guests from the German embassy in China at the China CDC in Beijing on Aug 12. They are Dr. Bernhard Schwartländer, global health envoy, Mr. Christian Steffen, counselor of social affairs, and Dr. Kenny Geomor, medical officer.
Shen said that the China CDC has always maintained an open attitude and cooperated with international partners in the fields of science, technology and emergency response. He introduced the prevention and control measures for COVID-19 in China and discussed cooperation between the China CDC and the Robert Koch Institute of Germany with the guests.
The delegation, led by Schwartländer, exchanged views with experts from the China CDC on issues such as COVID-19 detection technology, infectious disease prevention and control systems, and the current situation of noncommunicable chronic disease prevention and control. They also visited the Museum of Disease Vectors at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases Control and Prevention of the China CDC.
Schwartländer has maintained close cooperation with the China CDC in the field of public health. He worked at the headquarter of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the WHO and its representative office in China, and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS.
