Aug 16: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 591 new cases of confirmed infections (61 imported cases, 13 in Beijing municipality, 11 in Fujian province, 11 in Sichuan province, 10 in Shanghai municipality, 6 in Shandong province, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Heilongjiang province and 1 in Jiangsu province, including 8 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 3 in Shandong province, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Sichuan province; 530 indigenous cases, 426 in Hainan province, 26 in Tibet autonomous region, 17 in Zhejiang province, 12 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 11 in Fujian province, 11 in Sichuan province, 9 in Guangdong province, 4 in Shaanxi province, 3 in Beijing municipality, 3 in Henan province, 2 in Qinghai province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Jiangxi province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Guizhou province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 33 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 13 in Zhejiang province, 11 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Sichuan province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and 1 in Hainan province), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On Aug 15, 117 patients were released from hospital after being cured (58 imported cases; 59 indigenous cases, 21 in Sichuan province, 18 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 7 in Zhejiang province, 4 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 4 in Gansu province, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Guangdong province and 1 in Henan province). 9,280 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 4.

As of 24:00 on Aug 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 21,641 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 20,961 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 680 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 15, the National Health Commission had received reports of 236,261 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 224,688 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 6,347 confirmed cases (including 16 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 4,932,380 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 207,888 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 1,935 new asymptomatic cases (97 imported cases; 1,838 indigenous cases, 785 in Hainan province, 629 in Tibet autonomous region, 248 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 57 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 38 in Zhejiang province, 29 in Jiangxi province, 11 in Hubei province, 8 in Guangdong province, 8 in Qinghai province, 4 in Jiangsu province, 4 in Sichuan province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Shandong province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Hebei province, 1 in Anhui province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Chongqing municipality, 1 in Guizhou province, 1 in Shaanxi province and 1 in Gansu province).

On Aug 15, 294 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (53 imported cases; 241 indigenous cases, 42 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 41 in Zhejiang province, 41 in Henan province, 35 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 22 in Gansu province, 18 in Shandong province, 18 in Sichuan province, 10 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 4 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 3 in Hebei province, 2 in Jilin province, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Yunnan province, 1 in Tibet autonomous region and 1 in Ningxia Hui autonomous region). 41 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 8 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 15, 12,599 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 732 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 15, 5,272,154 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 366,740 in Hong Kong (9,569 had died and 70,439 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 792 in Macao (6 had died and 787 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 4,904,622 in Taiwan (9,457 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
