Aug 9: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 399 new cases of confirmed infections (49 imported cases, 16 in Guangdong province, 9 in Beijing municipality, 8 in Fujian province, 7 in Sichuan province, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Heilongjiang province, 1 in Jiangsu province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 6 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Fujian province and 1 in Sichuan province; 350 indigenous cases, 300 in Hainan province, 25 in Guangdong province, 16 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Jilin province, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Chongqing municipality, 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Tibet autonomous region, including 46 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 43 in Hainan province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On Aug 8, 108 patients were released from hospital after being cured (61 imported cases; 47 indigenous cases, 19 in Gansu province, 10 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 6 in Sichuan province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Henan province, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Chongqing municipality). 9,711 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Aug 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 21,177 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 20,581 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 596 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 8, the National Health Commission had received reports of 231,665 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 223,878 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 2,561 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 4,754,851 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 106,534 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 540 new asymptomatic cases (62 imported cases; 478 indigenous cases, 171 in Hainan province, 146 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 67 in Zhejiang province, 25 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 21 in Tibet autonomous region, 13 in Guangdong province, 7 in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, 5 in Henan province, 4 in Hubei province, 3 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 3 in Jilin province, 3 in Fujian province, 2 in Chongqing municipality, 2 in Sichuan province, 2 in Gansu province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Hebei province, 1 in Anhui province and 1 in Jiangxi province).

On Aug 8, 433 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (56 imported cases; 377 indigenous cases, 240 in Gansu province, 53 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 31 in Shandong province, 9 in Shanghai municipality, 9 in Guangdong province, 8 in Yunnan province, 6 in Anhui province, 6 in Henan province, 4 in Jiangxi province, 3 in Jilin province, 3 in Sichuan province, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Hubei province and 1 in Jiangsu province). 52 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 6 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 8, 5,122 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 654 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 8, 5,116,492 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 361,433 in Hong Kong (9,547 had died and 69,145 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 791 in Macao (6 had died and 777 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 4,754,268 in Taiwan (9,255 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
