In ancient China, officials wore court robes at grand ceremonies. The Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) dress code continued the traditions of Zhou, Han, Tang and Song dynasties.
The only surviving complete set of Ming Dynasty court robe was owned by Duke Yansheng, a direct descendant of Confucius. The attire consists of a red overcoat, a red skirt, a white inner garment, a hat, and a pair of shoes, reflecting formality and status attributed to clothing in ancient China.
This complete set of court attire is a treasure in the permanent collection of the Shandong Museum.
