China CDC holds workshop for CFETP mentors and shares experiences between field bases

The Graduate School of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) held a workshop for the mentors of the Chinese Field Epidemiology Training Program (CFETP) and shared experiences between its field bases in Beijing on July 26 and 27.

Officials from the China CDC, CFETP mentors including primary supervisors as well as field supervisors and persons in charge of field bases and trainees joined the workshop either in person or virtually.

Ma Huilai, director of the CFETP, briefed the participants about the establishment and development of the CFETP’s field bases and its mentorship, and expressed her hope that the CFETP mentors’ capability as well as management capacity of the field base will be improved through this training.

Dr. W. William Schluter, director of the US CDC China Country Office, said the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) has always been an important area of cooperation between the China CDC and the US CDC. He discussed the mentor culture of Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) in the United States and explained the instructional methods used in the program.

Zhang Lijie and Liu Huihui, deputy directors of CFETP, introduced the establishment and progress of the Advanced FETP and Intermediate FETP, as well as the current challenges and prospective development ideas respectively.

Representatives of mentors and relevant experts also shared their experiences on how to guide trainees to carry out outbreak investigation, planned studies and surveillance system data analysis during the two-day training workshop.
