Longwan district – one of the four urban districts of Wenzhou city in East China's Zhejiang province – was awarded the highest provincial honor for sci-tech innovation at the Zhejiang Science and Technology Conference recently.
The conference was held on July 11 in Hangzhou city, capital of the province and Longwan was the only one to receive the honor among Wenzhou's counties, county-level cities and districts.
"The winning of the honor proves that Longwan is at the forefront of Zhejiang in terms of sci-tech innovation," said Zhou Wei, secretary of the leading Party members' group in the Longwan science and technology bureau.
Longwan is home to a slew of high-end innovation platforms, such as the Wenzhou Institute of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Oujiang Laboratory, making it a provincial demonstration base for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Focusing on the key industries, Longwan is said to be committed to introducing more investment. In the field of life health, the district has built China Eye Valley. Further momentum was also injected into its new energy sector, in the wake of a manufacturing plant funded by REPT Battero Energy Co Ltd for 30 billion yuan ($4.43 billion) and a new lithium battery industry plant costing 19.1 billion yuan.
On July 1, a new talent residential apartment building opened, with complete facilities for catering, shopping, fitness, dry cleaning and others – providing a facility that was praised by the first group of top-flight people to live there.
In addition to living facilities, Longwan also provides a premium environment in terms of policies for industrial development and recruitment. In 2021, 1.72 billion yuan in support grants to enterprises were handed out.
