Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has managed to coordinate COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures with the smooth operation of checkpoints, said Diao Weihong, deputy director of the Department of Commerce of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on July 30.

Guangxi has a land border line of 1,020 kilometers, and checkpoints like Youyiguan and Dongxing checkpoints are convenient passages connecting China and ASEAN. The region has managed to put several pandemic outbreaks under control, such as the ones in Baise, Qinzhou, and Dongxing.

The import and export cargo volume of Guangxi checkpoints in the first five months of 2022 reached a historic high of 65.13 million metric tons. The volume in April, May, and June this year each increased by 55 percent, 154 percent, and 27 percent on a month-on-month basis.

A total of 2,677 vehicles entering or leaving the border in Guangxi were recorded on July 15, setting a new high for this year and topping last year's high.

The region has made innovations in optimizing customs clearance models and applied level-to-level management at the checkpoints. Strict close-loop management of high-risk people working at the checkpoint has been implemented. A pandemic prevention and control mechanism has been implemented covering the management of nearby environments, as well as rapid and classified disposition of potential risks.

Seven Guangxi road checkpoints capable of cargo transportation resumed normal operations starting from May 5 despite impacts of the pandemic, while Youyiguan Checkpoint is the only border checkpoint in China that has achieved uninterrupted customs inspection of passengers and cargo even with the COVID-19 pandemic ongoing.
