But as passionate as he is about sustainable living, Xiong concedes that the journey can often be frustrating as nature has its own agenda.

"You are never the boss," he says, laughing. "Mother Nature is."

He recalls that the process of building the roof of the "field theater" was particularly challenging as the wind kept blowing the bamboo pieces out of place. But this incident also proved to be a source of inspiration as he managed to create a new roofing pattern, based on how the bamboo pieces were dispersed by the wind.
